Our children are falling behind in the basics of reading, writing and simple math. We have become too focused on passing rates and statistics even when that means children are being moved ahead regardless of real understanding. We need to get back to the basics- encourage reading daily, provide more opportunities for children who are struggling, and ensure that all students are receiving equal access to resources. As a member of the BPS school board I intend to focus on student education and increased parent involvement. As the primary educators of our children we should take more responsibility at home and offer more support to our educators in the school setting.
